I agree, Ol Roy is the bottom of the barrel. Any dry dog food that lists corn in the 1st three ingredients is very bad for your dog. Royal Canin is good, as is Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul. Both are pricey but well worth the extra $, and actually with the added nutrients, protein, etc, you will actually feed your dog a less amount.

If you can find it Premium Edge dog and cat food have worked well for my pets. They are a quality pet food with very few additives. My cats have very sensitive stomaches and couldn't use Nautural or any of the dept store foods. ( Raised as kittens on purina kitten) Iams worked for a minute till one of my cats went into liver failure on it also my brother was feeding IAMs to his Lab she too died of liver and kidney failure so I'm not pro on Iams. For a 16lb bag of cat food it's $22.oo. It's actually made by the makers of Chicken Soup but a little cheaper with a good mix for diet. I used the Premium Edge Salmon Dog food for a Cocker Spaniel with serious skin allergies cleared them really well and helped with weight also. I was feeding California Natural but $40.oo was a lil much for my budget.

Royal Canin; We've fed Yorkies, literally sickened & starved almost unto death by Pancreatitus. Literally the only food they would eat with which they healed & flourished till their natural deaths some yrs later. As well as shepards, cats, visiting friends pets. We now feed our neighbors Dachsund when we walk & socialize him - they ALL love Royal Canin dog food, ALL of them. It costs a bit more, but every morsel is consumed, no having to dress it up with a dollop of wet food to make it tasty. Find it, you can buy it online too, and it's worth every penny.

HI I have 7 yorkies and allways had to mix can food with dry to get them to eat. I tryed royal canin and from the first day they eat it all no can added. I would like to get so couponds or try to by in bulk. I live in Portsmouth Ohio we are a very small town we just got a Petland and royal canin is 30.00 for 10 pounds. Is there any way to get it cheeper?

So yesterday I was looking up the effects of different brands of dog food. I found that the most commonly used kind of dog food usually have higher nutrition. This is due to the quality. Here are some brands that are recommended for small dogs.

Pedigee, Iams, Kibbles N Bits, Hill's Science Diet, etc are not really very good dog foods. Look up the dog food rating website and you will find those well known brands at the bottom of the ratings. I feed a selection of dry dog foods that have meat as the first ingredients and no corn in them at all. Canidae, Prizm Lamb & Rice, Chicken Soup for Dogs, Taste of The Wild, etc.

yesterday, after some digging, I found amazon sells the royal canin and one of the choices was a fifteen pound bag of cat food "mature 27" for roughly 42.99 plus about 12 bucks shipping and one of the sellers websites was pet food direct.com. I checked them out and they also automatically gave a 10% discount. Ironically they sell the seven pound bag of royal canin for 18.33 so I bought two of them for 36 bucks plus 11.99 shipping with 10% discount this totaled about 44 bucks for 14 pounds of food. This was the best buy for me digging around an hour or so. This equates to about $3.15 a pound for RC cat food. not bad considering locally they want 12 bucks for 2.5 lb of royal cannin. this $1.80 in savings per pound multiplied by 14 pounds is 25 bucks and is delivered ups NOT BAD.

To the person about ol'roy...yea I have heard of it and I STRONGLY suggest taking your dog off of it!!!!! I am a manager at a pet supply store and have done alot of research on pet foods and what I have discovered is that ol'roy dog food uses very small amounts of an ingredient that they use to euthanise dogs with!!!!! You are probably noticing that your dog doesn't seem to be gaining weight. My suggestion would be to start using something like Solid Gold which is an all natural dog food!!! When the dog poops it helps the plants grow too!!! Alot of foods like puppy chow,ol'roy and ALOT of others use fillers in the food. If one of the first four ingredients is corn or wheat DON'T buy it.

I have an english bulldog and feed him royal canin. I was also looking for coupons. I work in Petsmart and usually on Sat. afternoons a royal canin rep will come in and give coupons for the 8lb bags to get up to $14.99 free. I have also heard if you call the customer service number on the bag you can request an evenvlope be sent to you to put 10 upc's in, mail it back, and they will send you a coupon for a free bag. Hope this helps!

Royal Canin was a bit expensive for me so I switched to NutriSource and my dogs LOVE it, I have a senior terrier mix, a chihuahua and two beagles which I show in conformation. One of the beagles is a puppy so she is on their puppy formula but the other three dogs are on the adult formula and I've had major results with my senior and her arthritis. They even print coupons for larger bags right on the bags.

I just went into Petsmart and got a $4 off coupon from a representative. My dogs were so excited to eat today it was great. I have 2 Boston Terriers that normally share a bowl and take turns nicely- not with RC food they were both in there at the same time. I got the MINI Special 30 and recommend it so far so good.

Sorry. As a vet, I don't care how much your dog's love Ol' Roy food - it is the nutritionally WORST pet food that you could feed them out there. Of course every single dog will love the food, if you look at the ingredients, it's all FAT!! No nutritional value! I have had so many dog's come in with pancreatitis from eating Ol' Roy and similar lownutritional value dog foods. Now I know a lot of people can't afford expensive foods like Royal Canin, Eukanuba or Science Diet (which are the BEST food's out there!) But like I tell my clients - you want to feed your dog's the BEST dog food that YOU can afford!!! Purina is still cheap and 10 X's better than Ol' Roy!!!
**And for everyone looking for RC coupons - they are very hard to come by for a consumer (vet's get alot)! If you happen to luck out and be in a Petsmart, you may run into a RC representative once a month. Or if you're lucky enough to know someone who works for the vet hospital inside Petsmart, all employees get RC food 50% off.

Royal Canin looks a lot cheaper here: http://www.google.com/products?q=Royal+Canin+buy+cheap&hl=en&scoring=p&sa=N&lnk=next&start=10
Hope this helps someone. I'm going to check it out for my two dachshunds! I've been feeding them FreshPet, but it's a hassle having to keep it refrigerated and they are not exactly patient while I slice it up in the mornings. ;)

I agree that Ol'Roy is not a good food for your dog but neither is Science Diet, check out the ingredients on the bag. I would suggest trying Chicken Soup For The Dog Lovers Soul, very nutritional and far lower in cost than most premium brands. I have tried other expensive brands and tried this and my dog is thriving on it and loves the taste. His coat is shiny, he poops less, and is very healthy and active.

Please read the ingredients and study the nutrition info for your pet's food. There are alot of deficient foods available. I changed my dogs' food from Blue Buffalo to Royal Canin but both are very good. My 2 dogs liked BB but love RC. I only changed to RC because of special needs that were met with RC. It was a bonus that the dogs like it so much. I can't find coupons for Royal Canin.

Please read what is in your cat and dog foods!! Brands that you can buy at a grocery store is filled with fillers and are not very good for your pet. Wellness, chicken soup, Blue Buffalo, solid gold, are made in both cat and dog food. If you call the 1-800 on the packages sometimes they will send you coupons. If you register at their websites you can also get coupons there!!

I feed both of my dogs blue buffalo wilderness blend. In the past i have fed wellness-which my dogs and i were not happy with, and solid gold. I have never and will never feed my dogs any food or treats with by-products in it, among other things. I cant believe a vet would recommend science diet. The first ingredient in many formulas is a by-product. It's a by-product for a reason. If you care about your pets, do a little research.

I feed my yellow lab Blue Buffalo because of multiple allergies. We had her blood tested to determine exactly what she was allergic to and because she is so limited on what she can have, one of the only dog foods we can give her is Blue Buffalo whitefish and sweet potato. She's been a different dog since! A great product, but where can you get coupons?

Blue Buffalo is the best premium holistic diet I have ever put my dogs in and I always recommend it to all my friends, coworkers and family that has dogs. Most of them are on it already and they themselves have seen the difference!
I have a 10 1/2 year old female and a 8 year old male chow. They have been on Blue for about 7 months now and I have seen amazing results! They don't shed at all, stool is firm and not stinky, energy levels are high considering their age (they act like puppies) and they look a lot healthier than they ever had.
It is a lot cheaper than you think to feed your dog a good premium dog food, and no i don't mean nutro, science diet, royal canin, purina, or eukanuba. This is actually food that contains NO corn, byproducts, fillers, artificial colors or preservatives!
My only complaint is that they don't have any coupons! Other than that, I am a loyal Blue Buffalo customer and will always feed my dogs and possibly future cats this food!!

The best food I found is Iams! I have seven dogs and they love it! We are retired military and the base is the cheapest place I found to get it. I have one that is 7 months old and weighs 110 pounds. NEVER feed Ol' Roy. A lab, great pyrenese, german shepherd, and four mixed breeds eat 160 pounds per month.
Posted By :
To the person feeding Ol'ROY, do NOT feed this food, it's the bottom of the barrel food.
IF you can buy it at your grocery store, DON'T!
Good foods just to include a few,
Evo, Innova, Solid Gold, Taste of the Wild, California Natural, Wellness, Nature's Prairie. this goes for dogs AND cats.
Go to a Pet Supplies PLUS for good foods.
Avoid foods with fillers such as corn, by products, fish meal, glutens.
Decent foods should have a protein MEAL in first two or three ingredients. such as Turkey Meal, chicken meal. Fresh ingredients like eggs, veggies. While NO grain is preferred not all animals have problems with grains. But READ ingredients!

Any one on here that hasnt already done so needs to start researching about pet foods. I have seen a lot of posts on the subject, yet people keep asking about things like OL ROY. I came across a food in a local feed store called Exclusive. It is made by Parina Mills, not the Parina Pet food company. Seems to be a high quality food for the price. Cheeper that science diet

I'm not findin g many royal cainin dog food coupons, aven though through my vet I purchased a puppy plan for my jack russell, and it came w a little suitcase of goodies and in it was a coupon for $5 off any bag of food AND a FREE 2-6lb bag of food. So they ARE out there. Ps it was a petsmart coupon.

First of all- Old Roy is not a good dog food. You are paying for what you get. Second. Do not buy anything from China. Check the bag closely. They put it in small print. Last, go to www.dogfoodadvisor.com . They rate all the dogs food there from 1-5. 5 being the best. Check out your brand. You may be surprised. I feed Blue Buffalo. I shop around for the best price. Not good for the dog to change a lot. For you on a budget, Kirklands from Costco is a very good food about $25 for a large bag.Natural Domain is good too , also at Costco. Most good foods are $1-$2.50 per lb.

WELLNESS, NATURE'S RECIPE, BLUE BUFFALO, CASTOR & PULLOX, ROYAL CANIN Good Foods to name a few. Look @ the first five ingredients! If is says it has Chicken in it, it better be one of the first five. STAY AWAY FROM "BY PRODUCTS" these are the feet, heads, and other parts of the "animal" not the actual "good" meat. Also look at preservatives BHA and BHT can cause cancer! Bil Jac uses this as a preservative. Check your treats too, it is in there as well! I have even found the preservative in gum that I was chewing!
I hear so many people say that their dog has allergies, when I ask them what they feed it is usually a "grocery" brand food. Iams has also changed their formula, don't be fooled! The stains on your dogs feet and around the eyes, from the bad foods being fed. Can also be caused by your drinking water.
With good food your dog will eat less, as they are actually getting the nutrients they need. You will be "cleaning up" less too! :)

BY PRODUCTS in good quality food are not feet and beaks. The breasts go for human consumption, the rest of the MEAT are by products and go into dog & cat food. Pet food isn't certified holistic,Blue Buffalo is just calling it holistic. Not all Vet Clinics get RC coupons, we don't. We don't sell the volume of pet smart. Old Roy is like your kid asking for candy for every meal. I feed Purina Pro Plan,I think it's good food.

Anyone know where I can get Taste of the Wild Printable coupons??? My dogs LOVE it, it's rated 6 out of 6 stars on www.dogfoodanalysis.com, and it's actually AVAILABLE in my area (I live in a small town in the country). I visited their site, but nothing... checked online, but nothing... I would certainly like some coupons in this tough economy! :(

Hi to the ppl buying the old roy and mighty dog, these are the worst brands to get, with the person that said they have traces of what they use for putting dogs to sleep is true, this is because cheap dog food is made of dog believe it or not. I was a vet tech a few years back. Cheap pet foods are made from animals that are mass cremated, my teacher for my vet tech class who was a veterinarian, explained this. I have never bought cheap dog food ever again for my dogs not even treats. Now we stick to Royal Canin or Pro plan I figure the extra money keeps my dogs healthy and happy.

Never feed any purina product all garbage ingred , also science diet, eukanuba, Iam( they do horrible test on dogs so don't support them). I use to have 4 large labs and at the time i thought dog food was dog food and end of having all kinds of problems with dogs with cancer, auto immune disease , skin problems hot spots also seizures. lost one of them to the low quality in about food. I started going on the going on the computer and realized my poor dog were eating trash. corn, by products, euthinazed dogs and cats also soy. I know feed a high quality food and my dogs are healthy and shinney even my 13 year old lab. he is the last of my 4 labs i had at one time. when one of my other dogs was having seizures and 2 grand mal seizures i was feeding low quality food(purina) and once i changed the food to a high quality food I started weaning her off her phenabarbatol(not spelt correct) she last 6 more years free of seizures and died at age 14.

If any of you buy your dog food from PetCo, become a PetPals member. When you buy a bag of food, the 10th bag is FREE. I buy my yellow lab nothing but ROYAL CANIN LABRADOR BREED DOG FOOD, and yes, it is expensive, but this does help, to get a free bag every now and then. PetCo keeps track of how many you buy and sends the coupon in the mail to you. I wouldn't feed my lab anything BUT Royal Canin. It has everything in it that a lab needs for it's joints and it's very palatable. Little waste is left in the yard, and with no fillers used, I know my lab is getting top quality food....food for it's breed. They have food for many breeds, as well as for other needs. Go to their website and check out what they have to say about their food...dog and cat. Quite interesting. I do want coupons for RC food, so will try the website as mentioned above.

Be very careful of Royal Canin 'free bag' coupons. This month I bought RC coupons on ebay only to discover (from Royal Canin customer service) that the coupons are fraudulent. These expire 9/30/11.
Tonight I found a letter online that RC sent to retailers in February advising of fraudulent 'free bag' coupons that expired the end of June.
Someone has a high-quality printing operation going on. Buyer beware!

i have read all of the comments on dog food, i'm sure everyone has there preferance. just to respond for pedigree my dog is 22 yrs. young he still thinks so and is very healthy to this day and has ate nothing but pedigree in his 22 current years. my personal opinion is, if your dog is not looking healthy it is not the food you feed him, its the tolerance that your dog has for the food!

Pets are like people. Some can eat the "not so healthy foods" and have a live a healthy life. I have five cats, one 20 lbs and one ten yr old that is allergic to just about anything. They have been eating Pro Plan for a very long time. I thought this was the best for them. Well Max, the one with allergies started throwing up his food so thats when I switched to Pro Plan. Not much really changed. We had to monitor how much he ate so he wouldn't throw up. When he did it was the whole meal. Long story short, I talked to the rep for Blue Buffalo in Petsmart, slowly switched their food and it was 14 days before he threw up and it was very minimal. On top of that, when he used the litter box, the whole neighborhood knew it. That odor has even minimized allot! I'm sold on Blue Buffalo. It does cost more, but for me it's worth it. Thanks for reading my story.

After reading all that i forgot what my two dogs eat.I have a 2 and 1/2 pound tiny toy poodle, hes been picky to say the least, home cooking and many different petco, petland dog foods he turned away from,at age 1 he was sliding his health even more..I was worried to say the least. My vet recommended to get him a play mate, which I did,but finding him a mate non agressive and small enough was tuff, not cheap, returning two pups. Finally i found a maltipoo, who was a girl.SHE was suppose to be no more than 4 and 1/2 pounds, full grown.Well, the small boy poodle now eats right along side her, what ever she eats, tring to keep up with a pup that is now 9 months old and weights in at almost 5 pounds. She can kick his behind ,so the story is,what is the best food for dogs so small, people,he has possible shunt? She is all girl and breader lied about size to me at 600.00 cost.beware out there...happy holidays...

Educate yourself. Know what you are spending your $ on and putting in to your pets body.
Things to look for: 1. A named animal protein at the top of the list, such as chicken, duck, salmon. "Meat" is an unknown source and could be the cancerous tissue that does not pass for other consumption. 2. Named animal protein meal such as chicken meal or beef meal. 3. A vegetable or fruit should be listed within the first 4 ingredients.
Things to avoid: 1. Meat or poultry by-products. The better dog foods do not use them at all. By-products are cheap and of very questionable origin. 2. Generic fat such as "animal fat". Look for a named fat source such as chicken fat or duck fat. 3. BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin. These are artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. If the dog food were made out of good ingredients, there is absolutely no need to add artificial flavors. As for the color, I can guarantee you that your dog does not care in the least what color the food is, so why feed it something unnecessary and artificial? As for the artificial preservatives, a good dog food company uses things like tocopherols and rosemary. These are natural preservatives. They do not keep the food fresh as long as the artificial preservative, but if you are feeding your dog a food that has a best by date of 2014, shame on you! The natural preservatives will still keep dog food for 6 months to a year, which is plenty long enough for anyone.
Anyone who does not think that dog food has an impact on the looks, attitude, health and quality of life of a dog, let me show you a dog who is being fed a poor quality food and compare it to one who is not. Let's compare the coat, the muscle tone, the energy level, the bright eyes, the ear problems, the teeth/gums, the skin, the restlessness, bone structure, joints, weight, alertness.
As for the people who have indicated that they buy dog food according to what is cheapest....seriously? Did you take your budget in to consideration when you decided to purchase a dog? Will that extra $30 pr/month break the bank in order to obtain a 30# bag of good quality food?
Again, I urge you to educate yourselves. If you are feeding a low quality dog food and think your dog is at the top of its' game, you need to educate yourself some more. Switch to a high quality dog food for one month and see for yourself.

the worst brands are
ANYTHING BY:
PURINA: This includes Iams, beneful, mighty dog, pro plan, dog chow, etc...these foods are made of mostly corn, by product, and food coloring that has been banned from human consumption because it causes seizures ..and for cats meow mix, fancy feast, cat chow..basically anything you can get at walmart, and the grocery store is crap!
SCIENCE DIET: The vets push for you to buy this food because they usually get a kick back.. you're paying for corn and by products!
and as for old roy' you might as well feed your dog garbage from the dumpster..that would be healthier..old' roy contains meat from decaying animals, diseased animals, disabled animals..and there is proof that euthanized dogs/cat have been grounded up into this food
Basically you get what you pay for with dog/cat food...the higher the price the better you pet will feel, look, and longer it will live..the dog/cat will go to the bathroom less and shed less too..plus have a shiny healthy coat..and eat less too! so you're actually spending less or the same amount in the long run.
If your dog is on the cheap stuff and you say the dog/cat is fine it's just because you haven't tried the better food..you haven't seen how great your dog can be! oh and your dog likes the cheap food because it tastes like fast food.
The best food brands are:
Instinct
Wellness
Halo
Natural balance
avoderm
organix
merrick
and many more

are there any coupons anywhere for royal canin dog food ????
